I have been using this

I have been using this tactic for years and I will agree it does work. Just tell them you are really streching it already with your purchase and that you just can't afford the service. They have however recently caught on at some stores and will not allow you to back out in the store. However, they can not prevent you from returning the warranty within 30 days for a full refund. So if you must leave the store with the warranty but remember to return it within 30 days. You don't even have to return to the store to do so. They have a number you can call to cancel the policy! Trust me people this practice really works! I saved over $300 on my TV and over $500 on a TV for my parents.

Who's the real swindler in

Who's the real swindler in this situation, then? The employee trying to do his/her job, or the customer trying to weasel a few extra bucks out of the deal?

Your plan would work unless

Your plan would work unless everyone is doing their job properly. At either of these stores the sales person or manager your dealing with is also going to be ringing you up. It's not like a Car salesman where they ask you who you were dealing with. Chuck over at the home entertainment section may have employee numbers, but it is unlikely that he trusts his co-workers to not steal his sales, and will pursue ringing you up himself. When i worked at Circuit City; the store manager would never ever lower prices. In fact, he told me/us that we never change prices of closed box items, ever. So, if someone asked me or him to lower the price, it usually caused more humor than any success. "Really?!" looking like Kyle in Mystery of the Urinal Deuce. "You want me to do what?! Is this eBay?" Sure, try it. Why not? But, you'll probably be a lot less successful than this article implies.

So the featured article

So the featured article that's supposed to show you how to "rip off best buy blah blah blah etc" is a picture of a conference headed by TV with a picture of monkeys. Damn, that's educational. I know how to fight back against the corporate money sucking machines now!
